The truth or otherwise of what someone has written should not be something the state gets involved in. Currently, the libel laws are abused by the rich and powerful to silence their critics. It's not so much a question of who's right, but who has the best lawyers. Abolishing libel laws would save society money, and more importantly, safeguard free speech.
